Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This is representative of an Old World Syrah. Lots of layers, complex and delivers well on the nose and on the palate. Lots of black pepper, dark fruit, cherry and blackberry. Long finish. Good representation of oak and smokiness. Only about 20 percent of new oak barrels used. Very well done.
Jane Staples rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Chile's first Syrah, introduced by Errazuriz in 1993 with clones from the Rhone.
Lovely spicy, fruity nose with hint of olive, typical Syrah palate of plums, dark red fruit, spice and oak. Fairly acidic with smooth tannins. At $18.95, grab 2 or 3 bottles for those last barbeques!
Heather Wall rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Reflective of French style Syrah. Nice deep ruby colour with purple hue. Full bodied beauty. Immediate candied fruit, jam, plum, pepper. All repeated on the palate with vanilla and black olive added to the layers. Blended with coastal Syrah. Good everyday red. Lots on offer for the price.
Courtney Flood rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Some coastal Syrah (15-20%) used, to add a more “spicy” characteristic from cool climate grapes. 12 month oak aging. With only about 15% new Oak barrels to keep fruit character and freshness.
Lots of black pepper, olive, savoury nose. Some raspberry and red cherry showing through, some vanilla following, ending peppery, smoky, and savory. More tannins on the finish than other wines. Pepperiness stays long after. A lot of depth and layers to this wine.
Malcolm Lamont rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Still some hints of purple along the rim of this Southern hemisphere 2011.

A nicely complexe nose with something different each time I go back. Of course red fruit, black pepper, and the oak aroma components come into play, even with only 20% new oak being used.

Smooth but grippy tannins, and some well integrated heat on the palate, with fruit notes being less obvious, and the earthy, oak flavours coming through.

This is a nice example of a more 'old-world' style Syrah.

Natalie's Review

Errazuriz Max Reserva Syrah 2011, Valle de Aconcagua, Chile: This full-bodied red wine is absolutely luscious! A robust red for dedicated hedonists. Aromas of plush black plums, blackberries and smoke. A long, satisfying finish. Try with lamb tonight. Drink: 2013-2016. 614750 14% XD 750 mL  $18.95 Score: 90/100.
