An exceptional tasting experience of this legendary iconic Australian wine. Decanted one hour. Nose was full of rich Port notes, layers of sweet dark fruits, baking spice, dark chocolate, espresso, and vanilla. Bitter dry palate that did not match the abundant sweet aromas in the nose. Tart dark berries, savory notes, and a pile of fine integrated tannins. Recommend pairing with a fine cut of braised beef with a red wine reduction. At $500, this makes a terrific celebratory wine for a very special occasion. Drink now or cellar for 15+ years. Tasted November 2012.
Penfold’S Grange Syrah Shiraz 2005, South Australia, Australia: Full-bodied but balanced with finesse. Old World styling at work here. The time to drink this flagship red is now as the fruit is fading and the wine itself is slightly past peak. Drink: 2009-2014. 336388 14% XD 750 mL $499.00 Score: 90/100.
