This BC holiday weekend calls for a special summer time wine -- something crisp and refreshing to go along with the sunny, hot weather we've been having across the province, and something that will go with lighter and versatile fare like seafood on the grill or moules-frites. Such a wine is Muscadet Sevre et Maine sur lie -- Chateau de la Gravelle 2011. Made from the Muscadet grape and allowed to sit on it lees for 24 months, a process that gives this wine its complexity and keeps it fresh with a lively spritz on the palate, it is also dry with lemon and anise-like flavour, long length, and balanced with a refreshing acidity just short of bracing. At 12% abv, it is easy to drink as an aperitif, and is also very seafood friendly (on the grill or chilled).
