July 18, 2014: Medium garnet with slight bricking. Initial nose of red berries and dried herbs, but given an hour to open up, this starts to come across as old world Pinot Noir with funky earth, mushroom, strawberry, dried cherry, and dusty mineral. Medium weight, savoury with dried red fruit, sour cherry and earthy. Barely any tannins now but with nice acidity this should be drunk sooner than later. This gained a few points with an hour of breathing. Nice to sip and savour alone or try with mushroom crostini appetizers. 89+
Estate Papaioannou Single Vineyard Agiorgitiko 2007, A.Q.S., Nemea, Greece: Lovely and exotically different. Violets, rose petals, talcum powder and tart cherry aromas on the nose. Smooth and almost full-bodied on the palate. Good acidity for food. Try it with salmon. Drink: 2012-2015. 47977 12.50% XD 750 mL $19.95 Score: 88/100.
