Beautifully rich ruby red that is practically opaque. Fruit explosion on the nose, thanks to a large bulbous glass, with dark fruit like cherry and berries, plum, fig, sweet spices, cassis and eucalyptus. On the palate, much of the same, plus prune, raisin, leather and smoke. Glad we cellared it for so long - 2016 is the perfect year to take this one out. It is gorgeous!
Domaine Saint-Pierre Vacqueyras 2009, A.C., Rhône, France: A concentrated and intense blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah grapes with aromas of black fleshy fruit, smoke, tar and blackberry liqueur. Mouth-filling and sumptuous. Great for dinner parties and gifts. Decant 1-2 hours. Will cellar well too. Drink: 2013-2019. 130013 14.50% XD 750 mL $24.95 Score: 92/100.
