Burrowing Owl Estate Winery Athene 2008, BC VQA Okanagan Valley, Canada: Wowzers! This wine is a show-stopper: gorgeous depth and length with everything lovely in between. Athene (pronounced A-Thee-Nee) offers dedicated hedonists dark smoky cassis and blackberries with luscious layers of mouth-filling, full-bodied texture. This wine is a blend of Syrah (53%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (47%) that's been aged 14 months in oak. A cellar keeper for sure, but only if you have the discipline to wait.
