Dan Trcka rated this wine as
88/100 with the following review:
The 2008 Santa Carolina Reserva De Familia Carmenère, which sits in a glass fortress that weighs more than the wine itself, is medium bodied with nice aromas of integrated dark red fruit (black currant/blackberry) and intense coconut and vanilla. It is tannic (decant for 30 to 60 min) and the finish is medium to long. It is good to drink now and has the potential to evolve for the next 5-10 years. My impression: NICE, 88 pts - bottle I tried was a bit corked. Tasted Sept/11.
Peter rated this wine as
96/100 with the following review:
This wine is deep and very flavor filled, the deep purple color with red hues is very appealing to the eyes the taste and aroma is rich red and black fruit and spicy accents and an unusual a hint of soy sauce. It has deeper fruit flavor, with an underlying woodiness that adds nicely to the experience.
This wine paired beautifully with a nice grilled rib eye rubbed with garlic and rosemary, and a Sesame-Miso Cucumber Salad I made.
Please note it really needs time to open, I even suggest decanting for a few hours before drinking to get the full impact of this wine.

Santa Carolina Reserva De Familia Carmenère 2008, Rapel Valley, Chile: Vintages Wine Panel: Mmm...a plush, satisfying Chilean Carmenère. Deep ruby with purple highlights in the glass, it gushes forth with expressive aromas of black cherry, black plum, licorice spice, gentle bramble, and freshly tilled earth. These characters make a delightful encore on the palate, which is dry, with an impressive core of ripe fruit, and ample structure-lending tannins. Nice concentration, and good length. Drink now or over the next 2-3 years. My note: Starts out like Cabernet Sauvignon with cedary, cassis notes on the notes and good structure but delivers those fleshy plums on the palate that make you say, “Please top me up!” Full-bodied and supple. Excellent value. Drink: 2010-2014. 34942 14.50% D 750 mL $17.95 Score: 89/100. October 16, 2010 Full Review
