Château Pineraie Malbec Merlot 2006, A.C., Cahors, France: Vintages Wine Panel: What is Malbec like when it’s at home? Perhaps more famous these days in its Argentine incarnation, the dark beauty is enjoying a renaissance in its French hometown, Cahors. Pineraie’s version, blended with a smaller amount of Merlot, is beautifully constructed, exhibiting great balance, intensity and length. It’s medium bodied, with aromas and flavours of raspberry, blueberry and blackberry, with mineral notes and a touch of lemony celery seed. My note: A big, black bruiser of a wine that gives you a full-bodied whomp of flavour, yum! Blackberries, smoke, tar and spice. It’s a heady mix that needs to be served alongside a big steak or hamburger. Drink: 2010-2014. 78725 13% XD 750 mL $17.95 Score: 87/100. July 24, 2010 Full Review
