Grooner is a great effort by Austrian wine expert Monika Caha in effort to gain populare recognition in the US of Grüner Veltliner, a bright and flavorful grape of Austria. I have tasted many Gruners over the years, having been a fan of this wine for years. This one that sells for a very reasonable price of around $10 is one of the best.
It has very lively and open citrus and green apple flavors that are wonderful alone and with food.
It has a lovely texture and aroma that is indicative of its source the fine wine maker Meinhard Forstreiter who is noted for more expensive Austrian wines.
Grooner Gruner Veltliner 2008, Niederosterreich, Austria: Zesty, come-alive notes of tart Granny Smith apple, grapefruit and lime. Pure fruit refreshment, without any oak. Terrific aperitif or accompaniment to many dishes, from seafood to salads. Drink: 2010-2013. 168625 12.10% D 750 mL $12.95 Score: 86/100. July 20, 2010 Full Review
