This yummy wine boasts black fruit, cedar, vanilla, leather, and a bit of earth. Moderate tannins and great acidity, which makes it very food-friendly.

What a bargain! Sip after sip, glass after glass..... it's just great! Aromas are pronounced with developing notes of ripe field berries (rasp, cassis), cedar, cigar box, vanilla bean and dried rose petals (somewhat perfumey). The palate is dry with med-high tannins tamed by complementary mouthwatering acidity, and layers of flavours including vanilla bean, cedar, tobacco leaf, ripe berries (rasp/cassis). Enjoy this robust ad complex wine with braised leg of lamb. Tasted July 2016. @sommsosa | bespoketastings.ca

Made from Mencia varietal, from Spain's Bierzo region. Deep ruby with aromatics of dark cherries, cassis, vanilla, baking spice and leather. The juicy palate gives ripe blackberries, cherries, vanilla, toasted oak and a hint of cinnamon with mouth-watering acidity. Absolutely delicious mouth full of flavour.

A beautiful wine with exceptional quality-price performance at just $16. Nice concentration of black fruit, compost, tobacco leaf, violets. Medium-bodied with medium+ acidity and a long earthy tannic finish. This is a gorgeous wine, aging well, and easily has another 3-5 years to reward. Mencia is a Spanish varietal that was once thought to be related to Cabernet Franc. That mythe has since been busted. Enjoy with a really nice grilled steak.

An impressive and very complex wine for the price. Sweet dried fruit, cedar, spice, mushrooms, and some telltale signs that this wine is aging and aging well. A 2008 that's drinking incredibly now. Wow! What a great wine. Enjoy 2015-2020. Tasted August 2015. 91+ points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca

The 2008 Bodegas Del Abad Dom Bueno, composed of 100% Mencía harvested from old vines, is a light to medium bodied, fruity wine with intense aromas of plum/red currant/cherry, some floral notes as well oak and faint vanilla. It has some distinct mineral notes; is bit unbalanced as the fruit and refreshing acidity doesn't match the tannins that are somewhere between refined to tannic (decant for 1-2 hours to allow faint sulphur notes to escape) and the finish is medium to long. It is food friendly to be enjoyed with carb-dominated dishes; drink now or age short-term till 2014/5. My impression: NICE to BEAUTIFUL (once decanted for 2+ hours), 88-89 pts - wine for light wine lovers. Tasted Dec/12.
