La Puerta Valle De La Puerta S.A. Torrontes 2012

Argentina, Argentina

$8.95

My Review: Harvested from vineyards in the Andes Famatina Valley, Torrontes is Argentina’s signature white grape. Yellow with greenish tint, it produces highly aromatic, fruity, crisp and refreshing, food-friendly wines. On the nose, abundance of floral notes, a touch of orange zest and tropical fruit. The palate brings vibrant acidity and flavors of lemon drops and stone fruit. Fruity, floral and still dry, it makes a great companion to a variety of dishes. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day and “drinkin’ the green”; pair with delicious green apple & walnut salad. Cheers …… Score: 89/100

My Review: Light and elegant, this lively, crisp white delivers vibrant citrus on the nose and abundance of gooseberry, ripe peaches and tropical fruit on the palate. A touch of grapefruit rind wraps it all up in a lingering bitterness on the finish. Serve it as a pre-dinner patio sipper, with oysters or shellfish. Score: 85/100

Chartron La Fleur Sauvignon Blanc, Bordeaux, France 2012

      Bordeaux, France

      $14.99

My Review: This is a classic Bordeaux white from Maison Schroder & Schyler. Beautifully aromatic, it is vinified with 100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Fresh and lively with crisp acidity, touch of smoky minerality and discreet floral aromas. Pronounced citrus flavours of grapefruit and lime mingle with white peach, followed by a long, elegant finish. It works magic with fish and seafood dishes. Delicious on its own as an aperitif. Score: 89/100

Le Petit Chat Malin Rosé 2013

        Languedoc-Roussillon, France

        $12.99

My Review: From the land of “sun, sea and sardines” in the south of France comes this “cunning little cat”. A lip-smacking blend of Granache and Syrah, beautiful pale pink in color, refreshing and elegant. Crisp and dry, it’s bursting with ripe berry flavours, fragrant floral notes and a touch of spice. Serve well chilled as a perfects summer patio sipper or with crab cakes and salad Niçoise. Purrfect!! Reviewed July 12, 2014. Score: 88/100

Comes from sunny hillsides in the superior “Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine” district of Loire, only made and bottled “Sur lie”. Great served as a summer aperitif, palate cleanser between the courses or with seafood in creamy sauces. Drink now or keep 2-3 years. Score: 92/100

                Deinhard Lila Riesling Sekt Trocken

                Germany

                $15.49

My Review: Back in 1843, Deinhard Family was one of the first vintners in Germany to produce sparkling wine. Lila Trocken is their premium label and one of my favourite celebratory sparklers. Aromatic, classy and elegant, vinified with 100% Riesling, it delivers aromas of apples, peaches and apricots with subtle floral notes of lilac. Fine and persistent mousse dances on the tongue in a crisp, smooth, lingering finish. Dry in style, it makes a great companion to creamy appetizers oozing with warm melting cheese. Delightful!! Score: 92/100

Clean Slate Riesling, Mosel, Germany 2012

                  Mosel, Germany

                  $14.99

My Review: This lively, refreshing white is vinified with the grapes grown on the steep riverbanks of the Mosel River Valley. They are kept warm at night by precious, heat-retaining/reflecting slate stones which allow them to fully ripen in this cool climate. The result is a light, crisp and refreshing wine with vibrant acidity, flavours of peaches and lime with subtle mineral notes. It has enough sweetness to accompany spicy Indian & Asian dishes, as well as desserts. Lovely! Score: 88/100
