Pelee Island Winery Pelee Island Meritage 2010

VQA, Lake Erie North Shore, Pelee Island, Ontario, Canada

Reviewed: June 18, 2014

$24.95

My Review: This delicious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc comes from Canada’s southernmost point of Pelee Island. The island’s unique microclimate with a few frost days and plenty of sunshine year round allows for full ripening of these Bordeaux varietals. Full bodied, rich and juicy, it is bursting with aromas and flavours of black raspberries and blackcurrants. Great structure and bold tannins, just starting to soften. Hints of tobacco and chocolate on a long lingering finish. Excellent paired with grilled beef or lamb. Score: 87/100

Jackson Triggs BC Reserve Viognier 2012

    Okanagan Valley, BC VQA, Canada

    $13.99

My Review: Beautiful British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley is a home to this world renowned winery. Its vineyards are surrounded by lakes and mountains, reaching the only Canadian desert to the far south. Grapes are fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness. Crisp and refreshing, it delivers aromas and flavors of tropical fruit, orange peel and peaches with a hint of white pepper and musk. It is rich and creamy from the natural weight of the wine, rather than time spent in oak. Great companion to spring salads and lobster with creamy garlic sauce. Score: 89/100
