Alamos The Wines Of Catena Torrontés 2012, Salta, Argentina: Pretty and floral with very pleasant lime blossom aromas. Medium-bodied and ultra food-friendly. Such an aromatic and characterful wine. It reminds me of some of my favourite supporting actors, which don't always have their name at the top of the marquee, but nonetheless put in a memorable performance. Torrontés is the signature white wine of Argentina. This one especially is a terrific one to try if you haven't done so yet. Great value. Alfredo Roca Pinot Noir 2012, San Rafael Mendoza, Argentina: The vines for this wine grow in the southernmost region of Mendoza, which has the cool climate needed to create balanced, quality pinot noir. Incredible Pinot for the money: you simply will not get a better tasting pinot at this price. Grab a case or five. Lovely fleshy ripe cherries. New World style. Wayne Gretzky Estates Estate Series Sauvignon Blanc 2008, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: Vintages Wine Panel: Ontario Sauvignon Blanc is starting to turn heads as this adaptable variety continues to establish a firm foothold in the wine-growing regions. The 2008 Estate Series spent 15 months in oak and offers notes of green grass, lime rind, toast and yellow plum. Dry, medium bodied and fruity with a creamy texture and a nice interplay between the fruit and oak, supported by a bright and racy acidity. My note: Juicy and tasty with lovely ripe Asian pear and melon. Like a summer’s day. I really like this style because it’s not grassy. Medium-bodied and very versatile with food. Mas des Bressades Cuvée Tradition Blanc Cyril Marès, Vign. 2012, Costières De Nîmes, Rhone, France: Dry, crisp and clean and excellently priced! If you like pinot grigio, give this white a try. Some terrific floral notes on the finish. In the early twentieth-century, the Marès family started making wine in Algeria, but later moved to Bordeaux to start Château Puy Castéra and then on to the Rhone in the Costières de Nîmes region for this coveted winery.
