Michel Torino Don David Reserve Bodega El Esteco Malbec 2009, Cafayate Valley, Salta, Argentina: Vintages Wine Panel: Michel Torino has built a solid reputation for producing consistently high-quality Malbec in the Cafayate region in northern Argentina. Some of this up-and-coming region’s vineyards are planted at the highest elevations in the world for viticulture. This juicy wine is bursting with blackberry and other ripe dark fruits, balanced by toasty oak, ripe acidity and friendly tannins. Should drink well over the next 3 years. My note: Especially gorgeous for the price: this has to be an inventory pricing error! This is my new party wine. Wow. Zolo Classic Fincas Patagónicas Malbec 2010, Mendoza, Argentina: Vintages Wine Panel: Delicious Malbec. Look for aromas and flavours of mixed berries, plum, coffee bean and woodsmoke. Dry and quite tasty. Intriguing layers of complexity lead to a ripe, fruity finish. My note: Top me up! You can’t argue with a wine this delicious at this price point … and if you do, you haven’t had enough of it. Rich, full-bodied with luscious blackberry and plum aromas. Yum. Alamos The Wines Of Catena Torrontés 2012, Salta, Argentina: Pretty and floral with very pleasant lime blossom aromas. Medium-bodied and ultra food-friendly. Such an aromatic and characterful wine. It reminds me of some of my favourite supporting actors, which don't always have their name at the top of the marquee, but nonetheless put in a memorable performance. Torrontés is the signature white wine of Argentina. This one especially is a terrific one to try if you haven't done so yet. Great value. Trivento Concha Y Toro Reserve Syrah Malbec 2012, Mendoza, Argentina: Deep, dark and rich, this brooding blend of Malbec (50%) and Syrah (50%) has dive-into-it aromas of blackberries, coffee, dark chocolate and smoke. The wine was aged for 8 months in French oak. Full-bodied but not heavy, wonderful concentration of flavour. Zolo Fincas Patagonicas Torrontés 2013, Mendoza, Argentina: Trust me, you haven’t lived until you’ve tried Torrontes, the grape name of the aromatic white wine. This is a wonderful interpretation of peachy-floral splendor. Ignore the price as it’ll bias you because it’s so low.  Torrontés is truly Argentina’s benchmark white wine: such a unique signature. Emiliana Adobe Reserva Syrah 2009, Rapel Valley, Chile: Vintages Wine Panel: This wine won a Silver Medal at the MUNDUSvini BioFach International Organic Wine Awards 2011. A lovely organic Syrah that offers incredible value. Ruby-purple in the glass, with richly layered aromas of earth, smoke, pepper and black raspberry, and a hint of bacon. Medium bodied, with good balance and freshness and a fine, elegant, balanced structure. Black pepper really emerges on the mid-palate. Tasty, smoky-edged finish. Caliterra Tributo Carmenère 2009, Colchagua Valley, Chile: Vintages Wine Panel: Caliterra was established in 1996 as a partnership between the Robert Mondavi family and Viña Errázuriz. Viña Erráruriz acquired the Mondavi share in 2004. The name Caliterra is a combination of the words calidad (quality) and tierra (land). This is a deliciously lush wine with layers of sweet dark fruit, nice structure and a seam of acidity keeping everything in balance. My note: Superb value for the money!
