Schild Estate Shiraz 2010, Barossa Valley, Australia: Big fleshy blackberries and black plums roll off the nose followed by savoury goodness and mouth-watering juiciness on the palate. Layers of pleasure with a long finish. Some dark spice and smoke on the finish. Oh double yum. There's some dark spice, black fruit and deeply seated longing and desire on the finish. Wynns Coonawarra Estate Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, Coonawarra, South Australia, Australia: Luscious and rich with cassis, fleshy blackberry and blackcurrant. Absolutely classic with a long finish. Tremendous quality for the price. There's some seductive anise and dark spice on the long finish. The bold wine has longevity, not only for this vintage in your cellar, but also this particular wine has been made now for 54 years. Elderton Friends Shiraz 2009, Barossa, South Australia, Australia: Vintages Wine Panel: If you want to impress your friends without breaking the bank, then this is your wine. From Barossa, this crowd-pleasing Shiraz is rich and vivacious with aromas and flavours of crushed berries, black plum, vanilla, chocolate and earthy notes. Santa Rita Medalla Real Gran Reserva Carmenère 2009, Maipo Valley, Chile: A flagship carmenere for Chile with intense aromas and flavours of black plum, spice, blackberry and smoke. Lovely complexity and depth at an incredibly great price. Carmenere, a member of the Cabernet family of grapes, is the French word for Crimson (carmin), and is known as the deepest and darkest of red wine grape. Try it tonight with grilled pork chops. Chilensis Reserva Carmenère 2010, Maule Valley, Central Valley, Chile: Vintages Wine Panel: What a fantastically well-priced Carmenère! Medium ruby-purple in colour, it sports spicy cherry, boysenberry, blueberry, hickory smoke and black plum. Dry, medium bodied, with ripe fruit and supportive tannins, all culminating in a lingering medium-long finish. A tasty take on Chile’s signature red varietal. Tessellae Old Vines Côtes Du Roussillon Domaine Lafage Carignan 2011, A.P., Midi, France: Fresh, full-bodied and invigorating: those adjectives don't usually go together but in this wine they blend beautifully. Although the alcohol is high, this full-bodied wine is nimble on its feet and tastes balanced and just right. Momo Seresin Estate Pinot Noir 2010, Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand: Big and juicy with pleasingly tart and vibrant cherry aromas and flavours. Mouth-watering acidity is fantastic for a range of dishes. Smooth and medium- to full-bodied. Very tasty. Absolutely needs food. Azul Portugal Wines & Winemakers by Saven 2008, Dao, Portugal: A very full-bodied red wine with deep, concentrated aromas and flavours of black fruit and toasty oak. There's a good grip on the palate so decant 2 hours for maximum enjoyment. The winemaker Anselmo Mendes is a big advocate of the Dão region and its potential for dry red wines. The 4 Meses translate to 4 months and correspond to how long the wine was aged in a mix of French and American oak, which imparts the wine with a toasty note.
