Chateau Millegrand Minervois 2010

Minervois, France

$25.00

My Review: Wet earth, leather and blackberry jam. This is a delicious and rustic wine that is 30% each of Carignan, Syrah and Grenache and 10% Mouvedre. A strong savoury note backed by ripe black fruit and dusty, ripe tannins. This wine would go well with barbequed game. Score: 89/100

    Girard Petite Sirah 2010

    Napa Valley, California, United States

My Review: This wine has an intense nose with cocoa bean, black cherry and blueberry jam, and the palate picked up where the nose left off. There is a great concentration of fruit without being cloying or flabby and a waft of sweet herbs and cocoa powder on the finish. There was a touch of grip to the tannins, but not enough to detract from my enjoyment, but definitely a food wine. This wine had a decently long finish and went well with my sirloin steak. It should keep quite well for 5 years or more, getting spicier with age no doubt! Score: 90/100
