July 12: Highly Recommended Fortified Wines

426189 Trenel et Fils Framboise de Bourgogne, Burgundy $26.95: If you love the taste of raspberries, you'll love this liqueur. It's sweet but not too cloying -- a great substitute for raspberry pie. 84

985366 Fonseca 20 Year Old Tawny Port, Portugal $34.95 (375 ml half-bottle): lovely almond and caramel. Half bottles are terrific since you and a friend can have a glass after dinner for a whole week without feeling like, gee should we open a whole bottle? 90

980391 Dow's 20 Year Old Aged Tawny Port, Portugal $49.95 (750 ml standard bottle): more almonds with hazelnuts and toffee. The Wine Enthusiast gives it 96. I'll go with 92.
