Balanced, full-bodied and flavourful but not heavy. Lots of lemon and pineapple notes with a toasty finish. Chardonnay food pairings: seafood such as grilled shrimp in a pasta cream sauce, lobster with lemon and tarragon butter or baked salmon. Opinions about wine differ greatly as the experience is subjective. You may find it helpful to compare this critical evaluation of the wine with mine as well as your own:
Mark Cochrane rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review: One of the things I like about wine is it's history and the background on James Oatley and how he went from convict to vineyard owner is interesting to say the least. They produced a bright yellow Chardonnay from Mudgee (85%) & Pemberton (15%) in Australia with a nice aroma of citrus and pear. A long grapefruit finish with some vanilla and minerality makes this crisp chardonnay a nice accompaniment with salmon, lobster or sitting on the back deck eating peel and eat shrimp.
A unique blend of grapes from two sides of Australia’s vast continent: Mudgee NSW and Pemberton WA (85% and 15% respectively). Our winemakers have cleverly blended a number of parcels with various components undergoing a combination of tank and barrel ferment along with French oak maturation. It’s a terrific example of modern Australian chardonnay, where fruit and texture are the vital components, with oak playing a supporting role. Lovely pineapple and fresh fig flavours, creamy, spicy oak with a touch of vanilla and a long, textured finish.
