Big tannic grip on the lusciously rich and delicious red. Black fruit on the nose followed by some toasty oak. Terrific balance. Top me up juiciness!

The wine seems to have been around forever, and so it has: this is the 53rd vintage, as the label proclaims. It is barrel-aged in 84% French oak, 31% new (plus a nominal 2% new American) the remainder seasoned, and comes from the top 25% of the available cabernet resources of Wynns. It is rich and luscious, with blackcurrant and dark chocolate aromas and flavours, the palate lengthened and strengthened by ripe yet fine tannins. [Drink until 2025] Score: 94 Source: James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au
