Keith Robinson reviewed this wine as follows:

2001 Domaine Huet 'Le Mont' Vouvray Sec

Price: $35

Availability: J. Webb wine Merchants

Assessed by: Keith Robinson

Tasted: June 2014

Product Details: Vouvray, Loire Valley, France 100% Chenin

Great Chenin is a rare and wonderful wine, and can be an unforgettable accompaniment to seafood and light fare. 'Le Mont' is one of the world's greats, a single vineyard of eight hectares along the Loire River in central France.

Grapes grown biodynamically with Demeter certification. Natural yeast.

The tasting: Light and slightly cloudy to the eye. Delicate, honeyed perfume. On the palate, dry, delicate and complex with straw and chalk. Full grained texture. Leaves the palate feeling fresh. Drink now or age another five years.

Music Pairing: “The Birds and the Bees” sung by Dean Martin

Book to read with: Wine and War: The French, the Nazis and the Battle for France's Greatest Treasure by Donald Petie Kladstrup. In part tells the remarkable story of Domaine Huet's founder Gaston Huet and his imprisonment by the Nazis.

When to drink: I recommend decanting 'Le Mont' for a half hour or so. Yes, you heard it here. Decant this white. Not a glugger, this is a wine that needs to be listened to.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
