True character of Volpaia's 2008 Chianti Classico is a pretty, mid-weight offering informed by tobacco, flowers, herbs and cherries. As is often the case in cooler years, these high-altitude vineyards tend to yield a more ethereal style of wine. Still, this Chianti Classico finds its balance nicely with time in the glass. It is a model of restrained elegance. My note: Perfect for tomato sauce. sun-dried tomato and baked fruit with a mouth-watering juiciness, smooth texture.

Chianti Classico food pairings: tomato sauce. sun-dried tomato, baked fruit.

Ryan Hindmarsh rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Very nice Chianti here. Get on it. Made from cooler vineyards up on the hills of Tuscany. Its like Adele singing your favorite song on the piano. It looks pretty good, has some great raspy depth and packs a cute little zip. When you’re done chasing pavement, serve this with spaghetti and meatballs.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
