Late summer; you fear the fall of fall. Another trip back and forth, to and fro; the beach. Your heels are crusty: caked in sand and well seasoned by the many dips, dives and flirting walks. Your hair is a matted mess but you pile it atop your ahead, push it behind your ears, call it a day. As the heat waves proudly, you walk up the hill and collapse into mismatched chairs. Overlooking the ocean, you crack it open: the bottle. Immediately you smell it: vanilla, sour fruit. It is a refreshing refrain from the salt that has long settled in your tanned pores, up your nose. Up, you put your tired feet; you sip. It is mellow and lazy (with a hint of spice) and deep, deep red (like rust). It takes its time in your mouth, stretching its arms and legs into all corners and crevices, painting your tongue with flavour. It is dry; it seems appropriate; so are you.
The 2011 Vila Regia tastes of fruit so summer-ripe that it is no longer sweet and verging on a unique savoury edge. A medium-light bodied wine, you should serve it with anything grilled (chicken, fish, seafood) or, if it's winter, serve it by itself on a day when you’re nostalgic for summer. It’ll do the trick.
