Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: March 5, February 26, September 11 and July 26.
Tinhorn Creek Vineyards Merlot 2006 Wine Review
Similar to previous vintages the Merlot grapes were crushed and fermented in separate lots. After fermentation the wine was then placed in American oak barrels and allowed to age for approximately one year. A combination of new to four year old barrels were used for aging. After oak aging the wine was put into stainless steel tanks where the different lots were allowed to blend together before being bottled in May of 2008. A juicy, generous, supple Merlot with full-bodied notes of raspberries, mocha and vanilla spice. Closed with a screwcap. 4.4/5 Merlot food pairings: beef, game in rich sauces, pastas with spicy red sauces, heavier fish dishes, salmon, halibut.
