2005 was the 20th vintage of Ornellaia. Lovely depth and complexity with layers of blackcurrant and dark plums. Silky tannins and a gorgeous mouth-feel: sit back and savor it. Long finish.

Food pairings: garlic casserole, prime rib, hard cheeses, hamburgers, pork tenderloin.

Reviews and Ratings

Jessica Hishon rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

After having tasted the 1998 and 2001 Ornellaia, the 2005 Ornellaia is noticeably the most fruit forward of the above mentioned. On the palate, it has flavours of dusty red and black fruit with a bit of heat on the finish. Overall, a wonderfully balanced wine and would pair well with any carnivorous meal.

Red, White & Drunk all over by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean writes about wine with a sensuous obsession... and often laugh-out-loud funny... Terrific.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
