Reviews and Ratings

Black fruit aromas and flavours with a firm tannic grip on the palate of this full-bodied Niagara red wine blend. Fire up the grill! MINE: A Niagara red wine blend that changes each vintage in terms of the percentages for each grape but includes: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Sangiovese. Produced by Stratus Vineyards. Nice heft. OTHER: Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: Perfect BBQ blend of Merlot, Cab Franc, Cab Sauv, Syrah and Sangiovese. An ambitious blend indeed! Full-bodied and an almost opaque colour in the glass with some good looking legs. A mix of red and black fruit, vanilla and smoky charred wood. The tannins are firm and require taming with a good dose of red meat. Good cleansing acidity to wash it down. I suggest decanting 1-2 hours prior to serving. Tasted: Sept 2015. OTHER: "Wildass, with its donkey logo and Wild West typeface, is the casual brand made at Stratus, a high-end winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Stratus winemaker J-L Groux, a native of France's Loire Valley, is a master blender who's crafting mould-breaking cuvées." (Beppi Crosariol, The Globe and Mail, Jan. 9, 2013) Wildass Red combines a whack of different red wine grapes each vintage, but it's consistently fruit-forward, bright and savoury with easygoing tannins. Pair with free-range beef burgers or burritos (Vintages Panel, updated). - Community Wine Reviews

Red, White & Drunk all over by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean writes about wine with a sensuous obsession... and often laugh-out-loud funny... Terrific.

Rex Pickett, Sideways

Ms. MacLean is the disarming Everywoman. She loves wine, loves drinking ... ultimately, it's a winning formula.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
