Natalie's Score: 90/100

A robust and firmly tannic Californian Merlot. Not to be confused with Stag's Leap winery (different placement of the apostrophe). Aromas of black plums and dark berries. Long finish. This will cellar well. Pair with lamb chops.

Merlot food pairings: Brazilian-style flank steak with chimichurri sauce, rack of BBQ ribs, veal Porterhouse, grilled lamb, Tandoori-flavored dishes.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Dark ruby garnet with mellow aromas of ripe cherry, blackberry and vanilla. Satiny palate repeats ripe berry fruit and sweet spice. Mouth-watering acidity and silky texture, elegant finish. Can't ask for more Merlot finesse than this! Would pair beautifully with rack of lamb or roast wild boar and savoury sauce.

Gwen Barton rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Rich, ripe dark plum and ripe red fruit abound in this Napa Valley Merlot. Well integrated oaky notes of caramel, cinnamon and hints of smokiness. Tannins are smooth and refined. Lovely long finish. Try pairing with a first course of pate and stuffed mushrooms.
Love this juicy and ultra-smooth Californian Merlot: it's liquid velvet. Aromas of luscious black plums and dark berries. Long finish. This will cellar well, but why wait? Pair with lamb chops. Located at the heart of Stag's Leap district, the original Stag's Leap winery was established in 1893. The estate has 240 acres under vine in the heart of Napa Valley. - Community Wine Reviews
