Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: March 5, February 26, September 11 and July 26.
Shafer Red Should Ranch Chardonnay 2005 Wine Review
Carneros is Napa's most southerly American Vintercultural area close to San Pablo Bay. This region has more of a cool climate due to the proximity of the Pacific Ocean. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir do extremely well here. Barrel fermentation, aging and the use of Malo-lactic fermentation. A gorgeously rich Chardonnay with layers of vanilla, butter, ripe pears and apples. Wrapped in a smokey blanket. A long, satisfying finish. 4.6/5 Chardonnay food pairings: roast chicken, squash, scallops, lobster in butter, corn dishes, crab, avocado, fried food.
