Reviews and Ratings

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A wonderful and pure expression of Sangiovese. This wine features aromas and flavors of black cherry, dried plum skin, dried purple flower, dried herbs and a hint of meat blood. 90 Points. (www.ottawawinejournal.com)
Sylvain Segard rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

If you had to choose only wine to represent Tuscany's modern style Chianti Classico in the under-$20 category, this bottle would be a prime candidate.

The wine has a translucent medium ruby colour with a clear rim. It has a dominant aroma of a heaping bowl of cherries. This dry wine has a medium mouthfeel with balanced tannins. The barrique ageing added vanilla notes to its light spicy violet aroma. And, its watery acidity carries a medium cherry finish that will pair beautifully with tomato sauce pastas. Score 90/100. (S.Segard, reviewed Feb. 24, 2017)
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Made from 100% Sangiovese in the Classico style, this light-bodied Chianti shows a fragrant cherry nose with cola touches, repeated on the bright palate along with vanilla , baking spice and a long mocha finish. Very food -friendly, made to pair with beef, game or mature cheeses.

Dianne Sheridan - Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This Chianti Classico made from 100% Sangiovese has the aromas of cherry, spice, smoke, vanilla and leather. It is light bodied, dry, with a good balance of acidity and a medium, black cherry finish. A very food friendly wine.

Pair with steak, tomato pasta dishes.
Mary Anne van Gaal rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This is a rare version of Chianti made with 100% Sangiovese grapes giving it some spicy notes along with cherry and vanilla. Ripe dark berries, spice and some oak dominate the palate. It would be great paired with a rack of lamb or prime rib. Tasted Feb. 24, 2017.
Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This Chianti Classico is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes. There are aromas and flavors of cherry, spice, vanilla and leather. Well integrated tannins, chocolate covered cherry finish. This wine is versatile and would be a great accompaniment to many foods especially Italian flatbread pizza with eggplant and candied prosciutto.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This Chianti is 100% Sangiovese, where many others are blends. At first delicate on the nose but soon opens up with aromas of ripe cherry, warm spice, leather and a hint of vanilla. On the palate this is a nice balance of fruity and earthy notes, coupled with bright acidity, making this very food friendly. Enjoy with a rich assortment of charcuterie, or with lamb.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Santa Margherita's Chianti Classico shows fragrant black cherry, spice, and leather on the nose. Fleshy dark cherry and spice on the palate, supported by delicate tannins and crisp acidity making this Chianti great with Tuscan dishes, from antipasto to a delicious Bistecca Fiorentina. Tasted February 2017. 89 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Tania Thomas - CSW, WSET ADV rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Chianti’s are usually blends of Sangiovese grapes with the small addition of Merlot and/or Cabernet Sauvignon for extra support and color. This one is a special treat as it is vinified with 100% Sangiovese grapes. Intense ruby in colour with pretty vanilla nose, it’s bursting with aromas and flavours of wild berries and that recognizable Sangiovese spiciness. Greatly balanced fruit and acidity with well integrated oak. A great match to game roasts and mature cheeses. Drink now or hold for up to six years. Tasted February 2017. Tania Thomas – www.taniathomas.com.
David Skinner rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Medium ruby and a slightly pink rim. Aromas of cherry and spice. High acidity and well balanced with medium supple tannins. Cherry and red berries with spice on the palate. A medium long finish with plenty of residual spiciness. The spic dominance likely results from the use of 100% sangiovese grapes.

Perfect with a pappardelle and wild board ragout.
Cora Beaulieu rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review:

The color is an deep ruby red. The initial fruit forward aromas are plenty sweet. Notes such as cherry, strawberry, plum, a touch of violet, vanilla, cocoa, Sangiovese spiciness and earthy flint. Soft and smooth on the palate. The tannins are round, with a dry, warm, earthy/powdery finish. The finish is a soft, sweet cocoa finish. It's a very food-friendly red – probably why it paired so nicely with the rosemary and bread crusted lamb. Will also match nicely with barbecued meat and mature cheese. [Tasted Feb/2017]
