Wow, this single vineyard Carmenere rocks! Carmenere is arguably the flagship red wine of Chile. It has it all: concentrated, rich black fruit flavours and depth, yet it's supple and smooth with a long finish. Velvet on the palate, lingering in the mind. The wines from San Pedro's 1865 line come from its own vineyard planted with a specific variety. The Carmenere comes from the winery's property in the Maule Valley, with rolling hillside vineyards averaging 20 years of age and planted in alluvial soil with angular stones to control plant vigour. This robust red wine finishes with notes of cassis and dried tobacco. Great balance and depth. Try it with a rack of lamb tonight. Highly recommended.

Carmenere food pairings: venison, ratatouille, rabbit stew, bison steaks.

Lynn van der Linde - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

This Carmenere is a super sexy red, and a great testament to this signature Chilean wine. A deep and racy garnet hue in the glass, aromas of oak, smoked meats, and hints of floral undertones swirl together with a long cherry finish. Very sexy!
Courtney Flood rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Hedonistic wine! Blackberry and plum with vanilla, crushed granite and a touch of sweet mint. Great value. well balanced
Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Red fruit and plum on the nose. The palate adds some spice, tobacco and a bit of smokiness.
David Skinner rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Medium Ruby. Aromas of sour cherry, plum and caramel. On the palate the wine bursts with toasty oak, tart cherry and blackberry. Gentle tannins and medium-full body combined with solid acidity makes a well balanced wine. The finish is medium long with a good balance of oak and fruit. Pair this with short rib and chanterelle ravioli perhaps using some of the wine with ginger and sour cherry jelly.
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Medium ruby, red currants and cherry fruit behind a green herbal/vegital veil common to Carmenere. Smooth on the palate, with cherry, plum, spice, toasty oak and herbal notes. Medium full bodied, and nicely balanced. Decant for 30+ min., and drink over the next 3-5 years. Pair with green pepper steak.

Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

The 1865 Single Vineyard is a wonderful deep ruby red Carmenere from Maule Valley Chile by San Pedro. Fruit is sourced from a single vineyard with 20 year old vines in stone laden hillside soils. This wine is densely concentrated with red and blackberry, tart Acai and almost-ripe bell pepper. This wine is medium-plus bodied and has a slightly spicy black currant persistence with a medium finish. Pair with vegan lentil curry, braised pork tenderloin with cranberry coulis or lamb chops with rosemary sprigs. Enjoy 2015-2020.

OTHER: A full-bodied red with very polished tannins and delicious blackberry and floral character. Long finish. So attractive now. Polished carmenere style. Drink or hold.
