Road 13 Vineyards Chardonnay 2008 Wine Review
More Wine Reviews and Ratings
|2008 in the Okanagan was THE vintage for the ages for white wine in the Okanagan. The slightly cooler than average temperatures, coupled with the other climate variables gave us perfect balance between fruit, sugar, and acid. These grapes were harvested in perfect condition, during a perfect spell of weather. They were whole cluster pressed, cold settled, and fermented in Central France tight grained barrels – yes, barrels to make the wine even better. Once the ferment was completed, the lees in the barrels were stirred 9 times and the barrels were emptied after 9 weeks of post ferment ageing. |
Again, this was a banner vintage for whites, and this wine shows it. There is excellent, bright, tropical AND Okanagan tree fruit characters in this wine; one could sit down for an hour and list the inventory of them all. Without apologies, the wine was “oaked,” – that is, it was barrel fermented, and barrel aged, albeit for only a few months. This was done to make the wine that much more complex, and to introduce a creamy character into the wine which nicely balances a very refreshing acidity.
