Full-bodied, juicy and smoky with lots of layers of black fruit and toasty oak. Flacoaria is the Portuguese word for falconry, which was the favourite sport of the Portuguese royal family three centuries ago. These vineyards were, until the XVII century, what were the falcon hunting grounds. This is a blend of 30% Castelao, 25% Alicante Bouschet, 20% Touriga Nacional, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot.

Reviews and Ratings

Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Intense ruby color, medium bodied and quite fruity with lots of dark fruit and violet on the nose. Coming from the Portuguese outpost of Tejo, this latest vintage of Falcoaria is a great example of its full bodied capabilities. The tannins are soft, the wine is balanced and elegant. The finish is silky and lingering.
From Portugal's Tejo wine region, Quinta Do Casal Branco Falcoaria Clássico (2012) shows dense and ripe red, black fruit and is well-balanced with good acidity and well-structured. The wine blend of the 2012 vintage is 30% Castelao, 25% Alicante Bouschet, 20% Touriga Nacional, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. - Community Wine Reviews
