A gorgeously rich nose of fleshy dark fruit, violets and cedar smoke. Elegant with lifted mid-palate flavours, then a clean, long finish that leaves you wanting more. Full-bodied, but not heavy. This wine was aged for 18 months in new French oak. Surely one of Canada's best producers.

Cabernet Blend food pairings: rich, flavorful meat dishes such as rib eye or tenderloin steak or leg of lamb. Also wonderful with full fat cheeses.

More Wine Reviews and Ratings

Ben Tollestrup rated this wine as 96/100 with the following review:

John Skinner, Bordeaux-based consultant Alain Sutre, and Michael Bartier have come together to produce exceptional wines on the Skaha Bench, which I believe to be the best terroir in Canada. Red Icon has the unique superior balance of top notch Bordeaux, while showing exactly what Canadian terroir is capable of — cult status. You’ll find flavours of dreamy cassis and plum, seductive firm flesh, and a touch of smoke.
In the 2008 vintage, our signature "Red Icon" Bordeaux blend consists of 30% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, 25% Malbec and 20% Petit Verdot. Aged in new French oak for 18 months. ”The 2008 begins with inviting areas of cassis and spice cake, leading to sweet berry flavours...a touch of black currant and a hint of vanilla & chocolate. The tannins are ripe and silky. The wine is very elegant with a long, long finish.” 94 Points John Schreiner

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
