Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: March 5, February 26, September 11 and July 26.
Painted Rock Estate Winery Ltd. Merlot 2009 Wine Review
Loaded with black fruit and smokey aromas and flavours. Full-bodied yet smooth with a savoury, meaty, satisfying mid-palate. A long finish. 4.6/5 Merlot food pairings: smoked meats, barbecue and rich, flavourful stews.

A serious, complex and sturdy Merlot with dark berries and dusty sage on the nose which continue onto the palate, joined by elements of dark chocolate, black liquorice and black currants. Elegant with a velvety texture and dark, earthy undertones- the rich fruit character coupled with nice grippy tannins and a good dose of oak keep the alcohol and acidity in check, making this a fabulous food wine, best with smoked meats, barbecue and rich, flavourful stews.
