Natalie's Score: 93/100A spectacular blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot and malbec with a solid Bordeaux-like structure. The Okanagan signature is fully present here with a generosity of dark fruit aromas and rich, full-bodied weight. A long, satisfying finish.
Food pairings: prime rib, lamb with rosemary. Best Beef Wine

On colour, it holds a deep ruby red hue, and so much so that one of our dinner guests called the wine 'opaque'. On the nose, definite spice and currant elements are picked up, along with plum preserve and vanilla scents. On the palate, you'll find this to be a smooth wine with fabulously tempered tannins, pomegranate and blackberry that ends with a buttery taste amongst a medium to long finish. All of our dinner guests, regardless of wine preferences, enjoyed this wine for its smoothness even just after being opened. A true crowd pleaser!

Still a little tightly wound, even after a couple hours decanting. This wine is built to age - it should be beautiful in about 5 years. Rich blackberry, dark cherry, anise, dark chocolate, christmas cake, black pepper, and freshly ground coffee bean. Blackberry jam and dark chocolate ganache fills my mouth, with abundance of chewy tannins. Long finish. Best to hold, but if you're drinking this now, decant and drink with a nice fatty steak.

Le Grand Vin - enough said.
Well it would be enough said if I didn't want to sing its praises a little more. Big, long finish, smooth tannins - however, there is still enough room in the length that more aging would improve the overall experience. Cigar/tobacco is the background note that I liked the best.

Big, dark and meaty. This blend has a lot going on in the glass: earth, tobacco, plum and a notion of dried fruit, cinnamon, leather... like I said. The acidity and oh, so, present tannin means there's a little more ageing this wine could do, or pull the cork while standing next to a meaty steak. I'd love to try it again in a few years. Nice.

Who knew BC had an area of Bordeaux in it! This was a great blend that could still take some aging. For such a deep, dark full bodied wine I loved that it didn't have overpowering alcohol aromas. Instead, smoke, stewed ripe fruits, pepper and a touch of dark chocolate wafted from my glass. A complex wine through and through. Put in your cellar or decant now and pair with some steak & blue cheese.

Truth be told I have wanted to try this wine for years and have almost bought it on multiple occasions. I was not disappointed A robust blend of Merlot, Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot this wine is huge and full of flavour. You’ll find dark fruit and even espresso on the nose. Plus, if you’ve ever smelled pipe smoke you’ll also notice that in the aromatics. On the palate you get a soft mouthfeel which just coats your mouth with velvety tannins that you almost can’t even notice. This is a perfectly balanced wine with the longest finish I have tasted in awhile and although it’s a big red red wine you could easily find yourself sipping this without hesitation. Pair with red meat and game.

Blend of 60% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec, and 3% Petit Verdot. Fruity aromas jump out of the glass, followed by leather, cedar, kirsch liquer and raspberry. Core of dark fruits surrounded by very chalky tannins. Well-balanced with mouth-watering acidity. Finish is long with hints of mocha. This one definitely needs 3+ years for tannins to settle. Tasted Jan/2013.

Among my favorite BC blends in the Bordeaux style: cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot and malbec, this is a wine with tremendous structure and lineage. A ripe dark fruit nose, rich, full-bodied taste and a long, deep finish; it's also a wine that will last and last. If you can stand not to suck the bottle dry the moment it comes through the door, sit on it until 2020... then call me.

A Big Bold Red this wine was deep ruby (almost purple and opaque) ... on the nose we found cherry, chocolate and leather with a taste that was tart cherry. Lots of tannin so this will age for many years and just continue to evolve.

A gorgeous red blend with a Bordeaux structure, showing complex aromas of dried fruit, violets, cassis,red plums, earthiness, chocolate and a hint of pepper, echoed on multi-layered palate.
Long, lingering stewed fruit finish.
Makes a wonderful gift wine.

Would score higher if it was around the $30 price range. Needs time. At least 3-5 years in the cellar. Really exciting to get this level of quality in BC Canada. This is truly a beautiful wine. Opens up after 3 hours. This is a dry, medium-full body blend. Intense aromas of dark fruit and rhubarb compote. Hints of bell pepper. Very pleasant long rewarding finish. Tasted Jan/13

The 2008 Osoyoos Larose Le Grand Vin, composed of 60% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot that was aged for 20 months in French Oak, is a medium bodied, integrated wine, with intense notes of red and black currants, black cherry, violet floral notes and vanilla. It is tannic (decant for 1-2 hours to loosen up the tannins and to blow off cooked egg notes) and has a long finish. Cellar this one for few years to mellow out the tannins; drink 2015/16 - 2020. My impression: NICE to BEAUTIFUL (once decanted), 90 pts. Tasted Jan/13.

I thought to myself, wow, this wine is surprisingly approachable for an'08 Osoyoos Larose Le Grand Vin! And then I remembered that it's 2013 ;) But still! Dark dried fruit of the plum and berries, black pepper, violet, cassis, coffee, dusted cocoa and a finish to take me from here in Ottawa to the Okanagan! It could still go for another 5 years due to its solid structure of tannins and acidity. I would have no qualms drinking this NOW with a nice juicy filet mignon.

Classical Bordeaux blend. In the glass bright, ruby red, semi opaque.
On the nose green pepper, black pepper, blackberry.
On the palate, dry, medium body. Spicy, acidity and tannins unbalanced.
This is a big bordeaux blend and I would expect more flavor and richness from this wine.

Osoyoos Larose Le Grand Vin 2008 is indeed a grand vin. Born out of the serendipity partnership between Groupe Taillan of Bordeaux, France and Vincor Canada (now Constellation) it exhibits all the class and passion such a partnership brings to the vineyard.
In Bordeaux, fourteen grape varietals are allowed; in Osoyoos, winemaker Pascal Madevon uses five in the following proportions; 60% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot which are coaxed into a dream of a wine.
And how romantic is the fact that the rootstock and clone combinations are prepared in Bordeaux, shipped to Canada and planted by hand in high density to ensure superior fruit quality and that all pruning, leaf stripping and picking is done by hand? Magnifique! French oak barrels age the wine for a period of 18 to 20 months and racking from barrel to barrel takes place every three.
So, how does this paragon of the winemakers art taste? Spectacular! Given that the wine can be enjoyed until at least 2018, it’s almost a shame to drink it half way through it’s predicted life span – almost but not quite!
With a deep ruby moving to garnet colour, Le Grand Vin gives a raspberry and toasty aroma whilst the hot, dry climate of Osoyoos encourages the predominant Merlot to produce rich, flowery, black cherry and spice notes, good tannins and a wonderful, lasting finish. At $45.95 it ain’t cheap, but oh my goodness it’s worth it! and because it’s only available through the LCBO/Vintages, exclusive. Definitely the wine to drink as a onesome, a twosome, a foursome or if you really want to impress someone but please, don’t take it to the neighbourhood barbeque where it may be treated like any old plonk.

A classic Bordeaux-style blend, dominantly powerful Okanagan Merlot, aged 20 months in French oak, this brooding inky assemblage offers intense aromas of smoked meat and dark fruit, with delicate hints of vanilla, herbs and cedar. Robust, firmly structured, the wine displays long-lasting flavours of ripe red and black berry garnished with dark chocolate-coated expresso bean wrapped around chewy, lip-smacking tannins. This is a wine of great substance, to be enjoyed decanted with rare red meats or cellared 5-7 years.

purple berry in colour with bouquest of flowers and wisps of mint and cherry fruit on the nose, this is a crisp wine that gentlt tingles the lips and tongue with a flavour that is young and will only develop with cellaring
