Vintages Wine Panel: BC’s Nichol Vineyards took a gamble in 1990 by planting the first Syrah vines in Canada. Since then, wineries such as Mission Hill have taken the ball and run with it, producing terrific wines, such as this SLC. The terroir in BC means the wines are closer in style to the Rhône than Australia, which explains the use of Syrah and not Shiraz on labels. This example features classic blackberry, pepper and vanilla aromas and flavours. Age it 3-5 years, or enjoy it with many of the rich meals over Christmas. My note: Plummy, round, full-bodied and tasty! A mocha-espresso nose followed by lovely layers of black fleshy berries. Serve it to friends for a dinner party.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
