McWatters Collection Sundial Vineyard, Oliver Meritage 2009 Wine Review
A solid, classic cabernet blend with aromas of cassis, cedar and blackcurrant. Needs cellar time, but should evolve and soften quite nicely. Meritage food pairings: grilled meats, roasts, and rich tomato pastas.

|Our 2009 vintage is big and elegant, with velvety tannins, well-balanced fruit and oak characteristics with blackberry |
and cassis overtones.
This wine was grown in the sandy loam soil of the Sundial Vineyard on the Black Sage Bench in Oliver, which is located on the southern part of the Okanagan Valley,
where we enjoy long hot days and cool nights.
Our Meritage is comprised of several different clones to lend it depth and complexity including: three Cabernet
Sauvignon clones which give it structure and richness; two Merlot clones which impart a velvety texture, soft tannins
and with blackberry and black cherry fruit flavours; and one Cabernet Franc clone that provides a spiciness and black pepper characteristic. The grapes (Cabernet
Sauvignon 44%, Merlot 32%, Cabernet Franc 24%) were carefully selected at the peak of ripeness. The wine was then matured in small French oak casks for 15 months before bottling.
