Reviews and Ratings

This full-bodied Spanish red wine is a blend of mostly Tempranillo, and small amounts of Mazuelo and Graciano grapes grown on 20- to 25-year-old vines. Complex with aromas of cigar box, leather, violets and black cherry. Full-bodied and mouth-watering. Love the taste and feel of maturity in this wine. Drinking well now though will also keep in the cellar for a few years. Pair with veal. A gorgeous garnet hue in the glass. Very mouth-filling and coating. Long, lingering finish. Pair with toasted nuts, hard cheeses and gentle conversation. MINE: This robust Spanish red wine is made by Lan, a winery established in 1972, in the Rioja region. It's a blend of Tempranillo, Mazuelo and Graciano grapes grown on vines 20-25 years of age. OTHER: Brian Gray Hamilton rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Nose reveals layers of smoke, vanilla, clove/nutmeg. Palette has good structure, substantial tannins, a depth of rich fruit and a long dry finish. Pair with rare beef dishes. OTHER: Wineboy rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: measured fruit, dryer style with noted tannins. OTHER: The 2008 Gran Reserva begins with gorgeous aromatics of black tea, black cherry, and coffee grounds. The palate has nice weight with flavors of red cherry, red currant, pipe tobacco, black olive and hints of baking spices. This has lovely weight on the mid-palate and the lively acidity suggests this will be a long-ager. This is an excellent effort from this more than challenging vintage in Rioja. (Best 2016-2027) Score - 92 (internationalwinereport.com, Dec. 2016). - Community Wine Reviews

Red, White & Drunk all over by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean writes about wine with a sensuous obsession... and often laugh-out-loud funny... Terrific.

Rex Pickett, Sideways

Ms. MacLean is the disarming Everywoman. She loves wine, loves drinking ... ultimately, it's a winning formula.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
