The 2009 La Rosa La Capitana Carménere is medium bodied with nice aromas of integrated bilberry, black cherry, cedar, vanilla and faint green pepper. Tannins are refined to tannic (decant for longer than half hour) and the finish is chalky, smooth and medium to long. Best to drink now and for the next few years. My impression: NICE to BEAUTIFUL, 90.5 pts - a recommended buy. Tasted Jan/11.

I'm usually not a huge fan of Carmenere, but this one was tasty and not bitter. It was recommended by a Sommelier friend of mine, and she told me it was a great pork wine. I had it with BBQ beef, but still enjoyed it very much. Made by one of the oldest vineyards in Chile, Vina La Rosa, I found it to be a great wine at a great price. Plum flavors, chocolate and some baking spice make this a very food friendly wine.
