Although the Vintages Catalogue notes 2011 as the vintage, we tasted the 2012 vintage. Solid value here. Rich, full-bodied, smooth and mouth-watering with fleshy ripe black plums and some herbal notes. Awesome price for this quality. Great party wine that is matured in new French oak. Try it with hamburgers.

Merlot food pairings: beef, cheese, poultry, quesadillas, Tandoori-flavored dishes.

Reviews and Ratings

Martha Kelly AIWS - CS rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

New to South African wines? This wine will leave a great first impression with its red fruit, dark berry, and sweet spice flavours, and friendly price point. Pair with your favourite beef stew or meats from the grill to soften the chalky tannins.
Drink now, or keep through 2016.
Date tasted: January 2015.
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 86/100 with the following review:

Ripe red and black fruit with mint, fresh herbs, smoke, . Youthful tannins that take hold of the mouth. Some good acidity to help open the palate for food. Red meat please! Drink now.
Aged in 300 litre French barriques.
Tasted: January 2015
Joanne Paterson rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review:

According to "Wine Business Journal" Merlot is one of the most popular red wine varietals in many markets, and rightly so. This medium bodied wine has a lovely ripe colour with viscous tannins. The flavours of ripe plums and a hint of spice, such as black pepper and smoke, are imbued with hints of tea leaf. A good value wine.
The grapes for this robust South African Merlot are mostly sourced from the warm region of Swartland. The wine was fermented at a low temperature to preserve fruit freshness, then matured for 16 months in oak barrels. - Community Wine Reviews
