Big tannic grip on this blockbuster Californian red wine made from cabernet sauvignon grapes. Smoke and toasty oak with tart black fruit on the palate and finish. Needs cellar time, then decant for 1-2 hours.

Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Banish this one to the cellar for a couple of years and it will reward you. Tough love! Sour cherry, cassis, black raspberry, smoke, oak, tar, graphite, chalk dust. This is a full on big wine. Youthful grippy tannins that take hold and coat the teeth, Medium+ acidity to refresh the palate. Long length on the tart cherry tannic finish. Needs good weight food - charred red meats, grilled pepper steak. Points for the future loveliness.

Jack London wrote about men and wolves, and probably drank his fair share of wine and other alcoholic beverages. The wolf head on the front label of this wine is the bookplate logo for his novels such as Call of the Wild (Wine?), Seawolf and Martin Eden. In 1913 he wrote of the hillside vineyard at his ranch in Glen Ellen, California: "I ride over me beautiful ranch. Between my legs is a beautiful horse. The air is wine. The grapes on a score of rolling hills are red with autumn flame. Across Sonoma Mountain, wisps of sea food are stealing. The afternoon sun smolders in the drowsy sky. I have everything to make me glad I am alive." I'll drink to that. This Californian red wine is still independently farmed by one of the original owners of Kenwood Vineyards. - Community Wine Reviews
