Reviews and Ratings

Stephen Beaumont CSW CWE rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Lake County is doing great things in the shadow of its neighbour, Napa. I have always been impressed with the quality of the wines from Langtry Estate and this Guenoc Cabernet Sauvignon is drinking really well now with the benefit of some bottle age.

There is a spiciness and beguiling earthiness to both the aromas and flavours of this full bodied, well balanced wine. Blackberries and blackcurrants are evident, as are hints of thyme and mint. The mouth feel is smooth and the tannins are nicely integrated. Long, smooth finish that elevates the experience still more. Very successful and great value if you can find some.
Langtry Estate became the first winery in America to have its own AVA (American Viticultural Area, their appellation system) when the Guenoc AVA was created in 1981. And yes, the winery is named after the famous 19th century American actress Lillie Langtry, who bought the property and produced its first wines there in 1888. A big, bold, but beautifully balanced Cabernet Sauvignon with aromas of cassis, cocoa, plum, dark chocolate and cherry. Dry, intense with lots of fruit and tannin to match. Medium-full bodied with a substantial finish. Enjoyable tonight, decanted; it will also reward 3-5 years in a cellar. Source: Vintages Wine Panel
