Gnarly Head old vine Zinfandel is my go to wine. It's a great wine to bring to a party or to give as a thnak you gift.It is rich and creamy with soft tannins and a smooth finish. It has flavors of dark fruits with hints of pepper and vanilla.
Elizabeth Vickers rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Ya, it was alright with filet, mushrooms, asparagus, and small potatoes...Tom & Lisa...not a spectacular Zin and not a Shiraz.
Cool, bright aromas of ripe raspberry and blackberry backed by a floral, minty note. This generous wine, perfect for the dinner table, is readily available. Source: Lynne Char Bennett, sfgate.com

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
