Reviews and Ratings

Wineboy rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A nice Santa Barbara Syrah that is somewhat more reminiscent of a Rhone Syrah than California. This is due to more restraint to the level of fruit perhaps attributable to it already being aged 4 years. Classic Syrah berries with pepper spice notes behind.
The red wine blend for Firestone (2013) is 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petite Verdot, 5% Malbec, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Merlot. While the Santa Ynez Valley's east-west alignment allows it to support a range of wine styles, the grapes for this 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon come from estate vineyards in the Santa Ynez Valley. Founded in 1972, Firestone was the first estate winery to explore the Santa Ynez Valley. The winery's proximity to the Pacific Ocean, a mere 26 miles to the west, ensures a relatively mild and arid climate throughout the year. The moderate weather and complex, rocky soils make this a perfect setting for Firestone's 340 acres of Bordeaux, Rhone and Burgundian varieties. - Community Wine Reviews
