Reviews and Ratings

Seductive blackberries and fleshy black plums on the nose, full-bodied with gorgeous velvet texture on the palate of this elegant Argentine red wine brought to us by Vistalba. Lovely bite on the palate. Spice and cedar smoke on a long and persistent finish. A beautiful expression of Mendoza malbec. Pair with lamb chops. MINE: Produced by Domaine Vistalba, the grapes are grown on vines that are over 80 years old in Vistalba and Las Compuertas regions, and they're cropped at 35 hectoliters per hectare, which is low, and aged in French barrel for 12 months. The 2012 vintage of the Gran Reserva Malbec is made from 100% Malbec grapes grown on low-yielding vines planted in the region of Lujan de Cuyo. The wine is fermented in concrete vats and then matured for 12 months in French oak barrels, of which about a third is new, a third is second-use and the remainder third use. OTHER: Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review: This wine blew me out of the water as soon as the cork was pulled. Stunning, featuring blackberry, black currant paste, herbs, melted black licorice, tobacco, plum skin, and a whole lot more. Warm, dense, and a little spicey. 93 Points. (www.ottawawinejournal.com). OTHER: Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review: Wow! Super rich and concentrated Mendoza Malbec. The Gran Reserva shows the power and grace a fine Malbec can have. Loaded with dark field berries, plum, spice, and leather. So smooth and polished, it's ideally suited for gourmet meals with complementary complex flavours such as beef short ribs braised in red wine and star anise, or an Argentine favourite, beef empanadas. Tasted April 2016. 92 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca. OTHER: Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: Damson plum nose with a hint of mocha. The palate gives more plum, mocha, vanilla & baking spice, earth and smoke. XD, full-bodied with spicy plum finish. Tasted May 2016. OTHER: This is a very ambitious, backward wine sourced from 60-year-old vines. Dense and complex, with plenty of tannic backbone and oak balanced by fresh acidity and layers of dark berry fruit, liquorice and Asian spices. It's a shame that this will be drunk too young. 2017-25. Special Report. Score - 94 (Tim Atkin, MW, timatkin.com, 2016). - Community Wine Reviews

Red, White & Drunk all over by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean writes about wine with a sensuous obsession... and often laugh-out-loud funny... Terrific.

Rex Pickett, Sideways

Ms. MacLean is the disarming Everywoman. She loves wine, loves drinking ... ultimately, it's a winning formula.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
