Dark chocolate, espresso and mocha on the nose from generous oak aging. Black plums and fleshy blackberries with smoke and toasty oak on the palate. Full-bodied and supple.

Tempranillo is the great red grape of Spain and the main ingredient of one of the world’s great wines- Rioja. Duende Tempranillo shares Rioja’s famous intensity and exotic quality, but it is richer, darker, and more flamboyant than its old world cousin. We harvested these Tempranillo grapes from 35 year old vines farmed by Gregg Lewis in the rolling Clements Hills, between the plains of Lodi and the western face of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Clements Hills is the largest, most geographically diverse sub-appellation of Lodi. Days are hot, nights are cool and the hills are steep and sparsely soiled.
