Smokey and tanned leather and charred plums in a great way. Mature, love it! Savoury, meaty and dark spice earth.

Reviews and Ratings

Alex & Priya - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Priya: Smells like strawberry jam. While it does suck a bit of the moisture from my mouth, it's got a whole lot of spicy kick to it. Probably a bit more than I'd pay on a regular basis, but with 10 years of bottle age it was worth the splurge. 87 pts.

Alex: yes, it is good for the money and style. However I think it's received more praise than it should get. Concentrated, cocoa butter, strawberry and plum jam, tobacco incense and clove nose. I found the palate to be too creamy and buttery for my taste (oak), yet it does have fine concentration and a savoury, cigar-laden finish. It is good, I'm just tired of oaky tempranillos. 86 pts
The 2005 vintage of the Convento San Francisco is a robust Spanish red wine blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Merlot grapes. More than half of the Tempranillo vines pre-date the root louse invasion of phylloxera. The grapes for this wine hail from 46 vineyard sites. - Community Wine Reviews
