The 2005 vintage was remarkable for Bordeaux and as a result we can buy terrific wines from the less-known estates at reasonable prices (for Bordeaux). The nose opens with classic notes of cassis, blackberry and blackcurrant. The palate yields cigar box, pencil led, violets and smoky leather. There’s oak here but not too much and it’s so beautifully integrated. A long, lovely finish.

Cabernet Sauvignon Blend food pairings: prime rib with a cherry sauce, hearty meat dishes, venison, blue cheeses, dark chocolate.
