Burrowing Owl Estate Winery Athene 2009
Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: March 5, February 26, September 11 and July 26.
Burrowing Owl Estate Winery Athene 2009 Wine Review
Spectacular in every way! Juicy, savoury black fruit depths. Complexity without the need for understanding why your senses are dancing. Full-bodied, smooth and transporting. 4.6/5 Food pairings: pepper-crusted rib-eye steak, seasonal game meats.

|52% Syrah / 48% Cabernet Sauvignon|
A deep, dark, brooding wine, this blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon captures the best of both varieties. The nose is bold and
intense with ripe blackberry, plum and cassis supported by vanilla, coffee, chocolate and oak notes. The palate is full with balanced acid and tannin and flavours of pepper, blueberry and clove from
the Syrah with the rigid backbone, cassis and pipe tobacco notes of the Cabernet Sauvignon. Together they finish on a long, structured palate that has the intensity to mature for the best part of a decade.
