Wowzers! This wine is a show-stopper: gorgeous depth and length with everything lovely in between. Athene (pronounced A-Thee-Nee) offers dedicated hedonists dark smoky cassis and blackberries with luscious layers of mouth-filling, full-bodied texture. This wine is a blend of Syrah (53%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (47%) that's been aged 14 months in oak. A cellar keeper for sure, but only if you have the discipline to wait.

Food pairings: filet mignon.

This is the first new wine to be added to Burrowing Owl's award winning line up in 8 years. The name chosen for this blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, comes from the biological genus - Athene - to which the burrowing owl belongs.(Athene Cunicularia)

Natalie MacLean writes about wine with a sensuous obsession... and often laugh-out-loud funny... Terrific.

Ms. MacLean is the disarming Everywoman. She loves wine, loves drinking ... ultimately, it's a winning formula.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
