Reviews and Ratings

A classic, robust BC Cabernet with aromas of wild cassis, tart blackberry, graphite and smoke. Needs cellar time, then decant 2 hours: firm tannic grip. Beautiful structure, long finish. Perfect for a rare steak. OTHER: Greg Hughes rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review: This winery makes the shortlist for Canadian cult status. Snappy, well made wines across their category and their quality hasn't diminished as their popularity grew. Their based around opposite sides of the Keremeos mountain and near Osoyoos Lake. Deep, dark, ruby red with purple inflections. The aromas have a lot to offer. Plum, tobacco, blackberry, black olive, charcoal, and fresh herbs. Smokey oak, more plum, black fruit, and a twang of fresh cranberry on the finish. Great wine from a vintage BC winemakers seem to be very happy with. Pretty high on the alcohol. Possibly higher than 14.5%. Good pairings might be Carpaccio, potato skins, strong cheeses, etc... OTHER: This is very impressive! It has size, depth, compactness and concentration. Sometimes Burrowing Owl reds can be loose, hottish and oaky - this one is firm and very much a cabernet with less greenness and less obvious wood. There is just-ripe blackcurrant, herbal/sage notes, chocolate, coffee and spice on the nose. It's full bodied, still youthfully gritty and tannic, but the ripeness of the fruit fills in well. Well centred. Best 2019 to 2025. A keeper. Score - 92 (David Lawrason, winealign.com, Jan. 28, 2017). - Community Wine Reviews

Red, White & Drunk all over by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean writes about wine with a sensuous obsession... and often laugh-out-loud funny... Terrific.

Ms. MacLean is the disarming Everywoman. She loves wine, loves drinking ... ultimately, it's a winning formula.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
